Looking to Remodel Your Kitchen? Here Are A Few Tips.
When it comes to projects like a kitchen remodel, there are a number of factors for you to consider. However, finding the right company to work with is probably the most important thing you can do. Here are a few tips for finding the right company to work with.
1. UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU WANT AND THE BUDGET IT REQUIRES
Are you financing the project or paying for it yourself? Do you know exactly what you want or do you need help deciding? Are you keeping the floorplan the same or changing it? The money you choose to spend on your kitchen remodel is going to play an important role in determining what the completed project will look like. Likewise, if you focus solely on what you want out of the project, the budget it requires may become a tough pill to swallow depending on your financial situation (we do offer project financing…click here to learn more).
It will be important to work with a company that has a lot of experience doing kitchen projects of various sizes because they will better understand the nuances of your project and be able to offer guidance in terms of overall design while keeping to your budget.
2. DO YOUR RESEARCH
When hiring a company to remodel your kitchen, do your research! One of the best and easiest places to start is by getting referrals from friends and family, which can help you narrow down your search. Once you’ve narrowed down your search to a few potential companies, it’s time to start looking for reviews from these companies. Search for the companies using resources like Google, Houzz, Angie’s List, Facebook and Better Business Bureau and see what comes up. You cannot “fake” reviews on these types of sites, so you can trust what you find.
These reviews should also demonstrate the value of the projects performed. If you are going to be spending your hard earned money on project, it’s important for you to pursue the VALUE of the project and not the price. We all know that going with the cheapest option can often result in a higher cost long term (poor labor services, poor materials used, etc).
3. CHECK THEIR PORTFOLIO
When you think you’ve found the company you want to work with, they should be able to provide you with a portfolio of their work. If they can’t readily supply you with photos, project details or customer references, then that should be a major RED FLAG.
4. UNDERSTANDING IF THE CONTRACTOR WILL HELP WITH THE DESIGN
Are the companies you’re looking at only contractors or do they offer design help as well (or in our case, AWARD WINNING design work)? There are many contractors that can take a design and remodel your kitchen to a spec, but many do not offer actual design assistance to help homeowners create their dream kitchen. Keselman Construction Group has a team of designers who have won awards for their design work and are up-to-date with current design trends while also being very familiar with classic designs that will stand the test of time.
5. UNDERSTAND THE PROCESS
Before you sign on the dotted line with a company, make sure you understand the process your contractor is going to follow. What is the timeline of events? How long will it take for materials to come in? Who is pulling the building permits if required? Is there a final “checklist” or walk-through when the project is completed? All of these questions should be easily answered by the remodeler you’ve hired and the should be able to provide you some type of process or plan they follow for each of their projects (click here to see ours).

I am so grateful that we selected Keselman for our first floor renovation. Our kitchen, living room, dining room, and bathroom all turned out so wonderful. They were really great to work with the entire time and surpassed my expectations. They were extremely prompt in responses, always keeping us updated, always treating us with such respect and keeping a tidy workspace every evening. (this was so important to us with three little ones and living through the renovation) It was truly a pleasure working with them and you can tell they keep their standards consistent with their contractors also. Any small hiccup or change that arose they were prompt to help us remedy and it never became a headache. Everyone had the same high standards of performance and attitude — it didn’t occur to me how important that all would be until we were knee deep in the project. I am extremely grateful and have been recommending them to everyone who asks. I would definitely use them again. Thank you all – my family and I will never forget the superb job you did on our home; we appreciate it every day.Jordan Canter
